Angels who passed by my life

There are people who pass by our lives and leave us missing them so much, what makes us to realize how human being can be wonderful, in any part of the world, speaking any language. There are three people who passed by my life and I thank God everyday for having put them in my way, specially in that moment.

It was in 2006, when I went to study in Poznan, Poland, as part of my doctoral research. I spent ten months there, in that country that makes me dizzy only for listening to their language. It was a wonderful experience, but also with many hard moments. I still remember my first thought when I arrived there: “My God, what am I doing here?” I felt like taking the first flight and coming back. The first days were hard, I missed a lot everything I had left back.

In the first week I needed to contract a health insurance and had to go to the University to get a declaration that I was studying there, and then go to the insurance office. How to do it by myself?? Impossible!!! So, my Professor asked a student from the Observatory where I was studying, to go with me, and in that moment it started my first Polish friendship.

As time went by, I’d say quickly, I became friend of three students there, who were my real guardian angels. The three of them are completely different, but each one of them is special in their own way.

Regina was the first one, who took me to the insurance office and then became my second voice. Poor she, she went with me to every place where I had to say something: bank, restaurant to teach me the menu, reception and direction of the hostel where I lived (and where I had a new problem every week, rs), post office, etc, etc, etc. The most amazing fact about it is that never, absolutely never, she was not willing to help me or to go somewhere with me, on the contrary, I was always sure that she was doing it with heart. She also solved my problems with computer and taught me, with all patience in the world, to use the damn Linux, for I didn’t know even how to create or delete a file, and I needed it for using a program that could only run on it. Sometimes she taught me something and half an hour later I had already forgotten… no problem, there she was, with all willing in the world to teach me everything again. She also had lunch with me everyday to be a company for me, even when she was tired and still having to catch a train to go back home, as she lives in another town. She held my hand every time I was crying for being homesick, or when I got angry with something wrong or when I felt like killing the receptionists of my hostel.

The other is Justyna, a sweet creature. It took a bit longer for us to get friends, because she is extremely shy. She is married and her husband was also very kind with me, always willing to help me. Wow, we had many parties at their home, always with maaaaaaaaaany bottles of wine and furious dog (you can imagine how light this mix was). I think their dream was to make me drunk, but they never got it. I found out something that even I didn’t know: I’m strong for drinking! Rsss Of course I used to be very happy, almost speaking Polish fluently, but never really drunk. I have a very nice relationship with Justyna, she got to understand me even when I didn’t speak much, it was enough just to look at me, and sometimes I went to her office just to get some cherish. She always said that it was weird, because I understood and knew her better than some Polish friends. We went for many walks, travelled together, and she was the one who liked more to show me the Polish cuisine. The highest point was when she introduced me to hot beer during one of the trips… literally hot beer, about 80 degrees, with clover… and I took two mugs of 500 ml each. Rsss

My third angel was Magda. She is cute, with wonderful blue eyes. I used to say I hated her blue eyes, rs. She is the funniest of them, extremely responsible and persistent, but she keeps a childish and innocent way of being that makes her a special creature. She makes funny faces for everything and also some weird sounds that only she can do. We travelled and walked around many times together and those were unforgettable moments.

After 10 months, my feeling was confused: at the same time I wanted to come back, because I was missing home so much, I also didn’t want to leave behind those people who turned into my second family, without knowing if I would see them again.

At some moment, I don’t know which of us, started to say that we were like four sisters. And that’s it, they are for me much more than friends, they are people who passed by my life and acted as protecting angels. Today, I offer this post for them, and I would like to say: DZIEKUJE BARDZO FOR HAVING PASSED BY MY LIFE AND LEFT SUCH A SWEET MEMORIES. YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MY POLISH LITTLE SISTERS.

Vivian spent 10 months across the ocean, without speaking the local language, without knowing the local costumes, far away from beloved ones, but she was never alone.

E contando-me os teus sonhos

Pois a distância não pode separar
Os sentimentos de amigos que são queridos
E não importa o quão longe podes estar
De certa forma, sempre estarás perto.

One thing is very important that you also passed me live and you are still doing this!
I've learned from you so many things ... The most important is that we shouldn't hide our feelings ...
And we should be more opened for other person!

Muito Obrigada for this beautiful post, for Your friendship and for this time which You spent in Poland. I've learned that in any part of the world people are exactly the same. We have the same feelings, dreams and problems.
One correction: Our dream wasn't to make you drunk but make you happy and relax. (Sometimes we were really worried about You.) In my opinion one time You were really drunk – after “Russian champagne”. Rsssss

Greetings to all my sisters' friends.
(Our friends' friends are our friends too.)
Justyna

I´ve had the same experience and what I´ve learnt is that it hurts much more on those who we leave than in ourselves :-) Keep in touch helps to cure the hurt and keeps the hope to be back one day.
